SPA v LCpl R

R was accused of one count of rape, one count of attempted rape, two counts of sexual assault, and five counts of battery. The allegations were said to take place in the context of an unhappy and cross-continental marriage, across a period of approximately fourteen months. The case involved complex issues of jurisdiction, specific disclosure, and close examination of the unusual circumstances which led to the Complainant being granted indefinite leave to remain in the United Kingdom, apparently as a result of making the allegations and despite no apparent link to the UK other than her husband (R).

Rebecca Fairbairn, leading Ed Wylde, represented R in a nine-day Court Martial at Catterick. R was acquitted of all charges.
