Third Junior Civil Clerk

Pump Court Chambers is a multi-disciplinary set with 126 barristers and 24 members of staff with based in London, Kent, Hampshire, and Wiltshire.

Chambers is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic 3rd Junior clerk to join their Civil clerking team, primarily based in London but there will be an expectation to visit other locations, when necessary.

Applicants should have at least 1-2 years’ clerking experience.

This is a very exciting opportunity for a clerk looking for the next step in their career. The Civil team has seen a sustained period of growth and has recently recruited a new Senior Civil Clerk and 2nd Junior Civil Clerk based in London to aid in their continued development.

The successful candidate will join a thriving, personable and pro-active clerking team who will be fully supported and developed within chambers.

Responsibilities will include;

  • Answering the phone and dealing with enquiries. Taking messages or diverting calls when necessary.
  • To follow Chambers fair allocation and distribution of work policy across all areas of the civil team at a junior level with supervision from line manager
  • Managing inboxes whilst ensuring an efficient and responsive service.
  • Booking commitments into the diary which includes conferences and hearings.
  • Notifying barristers at the end of each working day.
  • Chasing ahead in the diary for papers/briefs/instructions to the ensure they are received appropriately in advance.
  • Enter papers/briefs/instructions onto the LEX case management system ensuring the correct procedures are carried out.
  • Court listings.
  • Lodging documents at court.
  • Taking barristers to court, when necessary.
  • Assist the 2nd Junior clerk with billing and diary billing.
  • Assist the 2nd Junior clerk with fixing all types of hearings including providing dates to avoid.
  • Assisting junior clerk where necessary.
  • Oversee, delegate and train the junior clerk.
  • Support the senior clerking team and attend external events, when necessary.
  • General administration.

The remuneration package will be provided upon request which includes a bonus scheme.
