News 17th April 2019

James Newton-Price QC leading Peter Asteris have successfully defended a man aged 35 who was charged with murder after the victim died 11 years after the original alleged assault in 2006. The Prosecution alleged that the victim had died of epilepsy that was caused by the assault. The trial involved complex medical evidence on the cause of death as well as issues of self-defence, provocation and diminished responsibility. The defendant was cleared of murder and manslaughter after the Jury accepted the defence case that the victim may have died of other causes.
