Maria is building a practice in all areas of chambers’ work.
She is public access qualified.
Maria read socal and political sciences at Girton College, Cambridge before converting to law. Prior to coming to the bar, Maria worked for two years as a solicitors’ agent, attending the County Court on a daily basis.
Maria has appeared in court for landlord and tenant matters; contractual disputes; small claims trials; fast track trials; MOJ Stage 3 hearings; credit hire cases; winding up petitions; infant approvals; and general civil applications.
During pupillage, under the supervision of Adam Gadd, Maria experienced a range civil work, with particular emphasis on personal injury and land law. Maria is able to provide written advice on personal injury matters.
Prior to joining chambers Maria worked as a solicitors’ agent for two years, gaining significant experience in the County Court.
Maria is public access qualified and is able to advise on a variety of civil matters.
Maria has appeared in final hearings in private children law, non-molestation and occupation order applications, and in care proceedings.
Maria’s witness handling skills, honed in the criminal courts, have proved beneficial when dealing with vulnerable witnesses in delicate family matters.
Maria has appeared in the County Court and High Court in family matters.
She has dealt with cases involving allegations of domestic violence; marital rape; and sexual abuse of a child.
During her second six Maria appeared in court on a daily basis in a range of criminal matters, both prosecuting and defending. She continues to build on this experience.
She is regularly instructed by public access clients in motoring matters. She has been successful in a number of exceptional hardship arguments in ‘totting up’ cases.
The advocacy skills honed in criminal trials provide Maria with an excellent basis for persuasive submissions and concise cross-examination in other areas of law.
Maria has appeared in trials in the Crown Court, Magistrates’ Court, and Youth Court.
She has also appeared in the Court of Appeal, on an appeal of sentence.
Maria has had particular success in defending youths on serious matters (indecent images, robbery, and multi - handed robbery) and has been praised for her approachable manner when dealing with young vulnerable defendants and witnesses. She has a sound understanding of the provisions within the Advocates’ Gateway and the need adapt one’s advocacy so as to cross-examine vulnerable witnesses.
REGULATORY AND DISCIPLINARY
Maria is able to act as a case presenter on behalf of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
