Pump Court Chambers is pleased to announce that Paul Mertens has been appointed to the Attorney-General London A Panel of Counsel to the Crown. Members of the London A Panel deal with the most complex government cases in all kinds of courts and tribunals, often appearing against KCs. Paul’s appointment will commence from 1 September 2025 for a period of five years.
Prior to his appointment to the A Panel, Paul was a member of the London B Panel and is also a member of the Attorney General’s Panel of Special Advocates. He has appeared in a number of cases of national significance, including the recent Afghan data-leak super-injunction proceedings – Ministry of Defence v Global Media and Entertainment and Others – and the Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry in which he represented a significant Core Participant in that major statutory public inquiry. He is consistently ranked in Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500 as a Leading Junior in his areas of expertise.
