We are very proud that Maria Henty has been nominated for Junior Pro Bono Barrister of the Year at Advocate’s Bar Pro Bono Awards 2026.

Recently, Maria was successful before His Honour Judge Hess in the case of CR v CO [2025] EWFC 494 (B), in which she obtained a Civil Restraint Order and a Pro Bono Costs Order. In addition, Maria ensured that the applicant’s appeal was dismissed. Maria had represented the client pro bono for a number of years and was instructed in this long running matter by Emma Post of NE Family Law, both of whom acted on a pro bono basis. The judgment by HHJ Hess provided useful guidance on the issue of pro bono costs.

We are very grateful to Emma Post and NE Family Law for their support with this nomination and also for all their hard work, pro bono, on the case of CR v CO.

Maria is a founding donor and assisting barrister for the legal charity Not Beyond Redemption, assisting mothers in prison or recently released from prison with re-establishing and regenerating the fundamental relationship between mother and child. She also assists with Family BarLink at the Central Family Court, which provides free legal advice and representation to unrepresented litigants (LIPs) in family proceedings.

Since 1997, the Bar Pro Bono Awards have been a unique opportunity in the legal calendar to celebrate the remarkable pro bono achievements of the Bar in England and Wales. Each year, the awards shine a light on the exceptional pro bono work carried out by barristers. Now in its 30th year, the awards recognise and thank the Bar for its continued dedication to helping those most in need.

The 2026 Bar Pro Bono Awards will be taking place on Tuesday 19th May at Inner Temple.
