Following a hearing at Reading Magistrates’ Court, Elliott Wright advanced an exceptional hardship application on behalf of the defendant.

The court heard that the defendant provided financial support to aged parents in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including assistance with medical expenses. It was submitted that a period of disqualification would affect his ability to continue that support.

Having considered the submissions, the court accepted that exceptional hardship was made out and the defendant was permitted to retain his licence.
