We were very proud that Edward Boydell KC was invited to give a welcome speech on behalf of the Bar for Mr Justice Moody at his swearing in ceremony last week.

Mr Justice Moody was called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 1989 and took Silk in 2010. He was appointed as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2023, before being appointed to the King’s Bench Division on 29 January 2026.

During his speech, Edward commented: “The Bar is always delighted to welcome those who have been elevated to the High Court Bench. It is indeed a true privilege for me, on behalf of the Bar, to adopt what your Ladyship has said, and to wish Mr Justice Moody well as he embarks on his new responsibilities. Whilst Mr Justice Moody brings very long experience to the bench, having been called to the Bar some 36 years ago, his judicial career has, by contrast, been lightning swift, from Deputy High Court Judge to Mr Justice Moody in only just over two years, although the speed of his success does not surprise those who know him well. As clearly recognised by the Judicial Appointments Commission, Mr Justice Moody has all the attributes necessary for a judge of the King’s Bench Division.”
