On 27.01.24, the defendant was prohibited from purchasing any more alcohol at Sharkey’s Sports Bar in Bournemouth after he was verbally abusive towards bar staff. He was approached by two security guards who asked him to leave. The defendant turned to one security guard and said “go back to your own country” before pushing past the second security guard. The defendant was restrained and escorted out of the premises.
At the top of the stairs of the exit, the defendant bit the hand and scratched the face of the first security guard and then head-butted the second. The defendant also wiped his bloodied hand on the face of the first security guard whilst claiming he had “aids”. The defendant continued to repeat the same assertions of “go back to your own country” and “you don’t belong here”.
After a 4 day trial at Bournemouth Crown Court, the jury returned majority guilty verdicts on two counts of racially aggravated assault by beating.
Edward completed pupillage in October 2025 and joined Pump Court Chambers as a tenant thereafter. He can be instructed in all areas of criminal law.
