Miscarriage affects 1 in 5 pregnancies, with 250,000 expectant mothers in the UK suffering a miscarriage every year.
At present, the current UK law grants no bereavement leave before 24 weeks, treating baby loss as “sick leave”. With just over 1/3 UK businesses having supportive polices for those impacted by miscarriage, there is a clear need for workplace change to better support those impacted by miscarriage.
In association with George’s Law, Pump Court Chambers and RWK Goodman, we welcomed the George’s Law Founder, RWK Goodman Partner, and Head of Public Law Children – London, Keeley Legthorn, and Pump Court Chambers, Barrister, Naomi Gyane, for a lunchtime webinar, to discuss how George’s Law is campaigning for change.
This webinar included:
- Introduction to George’s Law and Keeley’s personal experience of miscarriage
- The Employment Rights Bill and legislative challenges
- What business owners and employees can do to help colleagues impacted by miscarriage
- Wider support available
Wanting to encourage further conversations, the session ended with an opportunity to ask questions. The slides from the session can be accessed here.
Trigger warning – this webinar contains discussion of baby loss, which some attendees might find upsetting.
