Call: 2008
Simon Purkis is an expert advocate in family and associated civil and costs litigation. He is highly experienced in all aspects of family law with a particular focus on matrimonial finance disputes.
Simon’s clients appreciate his thorough preparation and attention to detail. He remarks, “Getting the right advice at an early stage is paramount. It saves time and money which my clients may have but rarely want to waste!”
Having read Classics and graduated from Cambridge University, Simon excelled at the College of Law where he gained the top mark in two of his final exams for the Bar and was awarded an Exhibition from Inner Temple. He was also a National Finalist in The Times/Herbert Smith Advocacy Competition. He went on to accept a position in the legal department of a Fortune 500 Company before coming to the Bar.
In particular he deals with matrimonial finance disputes (on divorce and dissolution of civil partnerships), property disputes between unmarried couples and disputes regarding financial support for children under Schedule 1 of the Children Act 1989. He applies himself with equal rigour to disputes about the family dog to multimillion pound property portfolios. He regularly deals with complex cases applying analytical rigour to his cross-examinations in relation to disputes of fact. He has extensive experience in cases involving expert evidence in relation to pensions and business valuations. His cases frequently involve applications for maintenance pending suit, family trusts, assets outside of the jurisdiction and allegations of misconduct.
Simon Purkis is an expert advocate in family litigation with extensive experience (2008 Call) in both private and public children matters in the Family Court and the family division of the High Court. He acts for parents, family members, local authorities and children’s guardians in welfare and fact-finding hearings – many involving allegations of non-accidental injury, sexual abuse and parental alienation. He is regularly instructed on applications for non-molestation and occupation orders as well as specific issue orders seeking leave to relocate children both inside and outside of the jurisdiction.
Recent cases include successful representation of a father identified by an expert odontologist as being in a pool of only two possible perpetrators of bite marks on a baby. The mother’s application to the Court of Appeal was dismissed.
