Nigel Pascoe KC is a specialist in public and private enquiry work, criminal and regulatory law and jury advocacy. He also undertakes Courts Martial. He is the senior member of Chambers and has been one of the top jury advocates in the country since taking Silk in 1988. He has appeared in over 130 murder cases. These include many high profile cases on the Western Circuit, since taking silk in 1988. He is particularly well known for his jury speeches.

He has considerable experience of mental health issues, notably in murder cases. He was a President of the Mental Health  Review Tribunal for over 12 years, dealing with more serious restricted cases. He believes strongly in close teamwork in major cases and a good working professional relationship with professional and. lay clients.

He is IT literate, with a particular interest in all aspects of Court technology. Specifically he in a position to appear as an advocate and to advise online, both inside and outside the jurisdiction.

Recorder of the Crown Court for 34 years. President of Mental Health Restricted Tribunals for over 10 years. Legal Assessor now to the Nursing and Midwifery Council. He has a specific interest in public and private Inquiries, mental health issues and serious disciplinary hearings.

Nigel Pascoe K.C.  examined the earlier investigations of the deaths of 5 individuals dying between 2011 and 2015 under the care of Southern Health NHS Trust. His report and recommendations published in January 2020 can be found here. In January 2021 he chairs a public investigation into 4 of the deaths. His report will be published by April 2021.

He also chaired the Independent Inquiry into the police investigations of former Liberal Democrat MP Mike Hancock. For further information on the case as reported in the media please click here.

Nigel sits as a legal assessor in the NMC, where his long experience in very serious crime and in mental health cases is valued.

Nigel undertakes Courts Martial work and has represented a senior Army officer charged with extensive fraud.

Formerly Leader of The Western Circuit, he has been briefed in well over 130 murder cases, both prosecuting and defending, diminished responsibility has been a frequent feature. He was a President of the Mental Health  Review Tribunal for over 12 years, dealing with more serious restricted cases. He specialises in Jury speeches and believes passionately in trial by jury. He takes particular pleasure in opening his cases to the jury.

Nigel Pascoe KC is a specialist practitioner with considerable regulatory experience.  Nigel is the senior member of Chambers and has been one of the top jury advocates in the country since taking Silk in 1988. He is a former Leader of the Western Circuit.
