Nazmeen Imambaccus has a mixed busy common law practice, accepting instructions across a range of professional regulation and public law matters. Her specialist focus areas are regulatory matters and Inquiries.

Outside of her practice, Nazmeen provides mentoring to aspiring barristers and she also provides mentoring in partnership with MAPS Mentoring.
Prior to joining the Bar, Nazmeen had qualified as a barrister in in an oversea common law jurisdiction. Her practice focused on Civil and Commercial matters which included being junior counsel on a high profile commercial matter appearing for a well-known life assurance provider.
Nazmeen’s practice in Regulatory and Disciplinary matters has led to her carrying out a secondment with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. She has then appeared as a case presenter in many substantive hearings including those brought against managers of care home and high-profile midwifery cases involving a death of a baby.
As such, Nazmeen is regularly instructed to appear and advise in matters before professional bodies and tribunals such as the NMC acting for the Registrant. She appears in all types of hearings for fitness to practice from interim orders to substantive reviews.
Prior to practising in Regulatory and Disciplinary matters, Nazmeen had a busy criminal practice for a number of years appearing for both the Prosecution (as a CPS Grade 3 Prosecutor) and Defence. Given her past experience, Nazmeen is well equipped to deal with a wide range of allegations before Regulators such as dishonesty, violence ad sexual misconduct as well issues of competency and medication administration.
Nazmeen has extensive experience of Public Inquiries being instructed as Counsel to the Inquiry as well as advising Core Participants. Nazmeen is always expanding her experience and is keen to take on further work for Inquiries and for Core Participants in this area.
Prior to her civil work, Nazmeen has a busy criminal practice for a number of years where she appeared on behalf of the Prosecution (as a CPS Grade 3 Prosecutor) and the Defence. Given her expertise in General Crime and Regulatory matters, Nazmeen has been able to adapt her previous experience and skills to appear in Inquests.
Nazmeen’s experience in Inquests involves matters such as a death occurring in a prison. She is keen to undertake further instructions for Inquest matters.

Undercover Police Inquiry
She has been instructed on the Undercover Police Inquiry since 2020. She is currently a Second Junior on the Inquiry working on Tranche 3, a position she has held since 2022.
Independent Inquiry relating to Afghanistan
Nazmeen is currently acting on behalf of one of the Core Participants assisting in preparing and drafting witness statements.
UK Covid-19 Inquiry
Nazmeen is currently acting as Junior Counsel for one of the Core Participants. She is currently instructed in relation to Module 5 focusing on the procurement of healthcare equipment and supplies during the Covid-19 pandemic response.
Infected Blood Inquiry
Between 2020-2021, Nazmeen was instructed on the Infected Blood Inquiry where she assisted in drafting witness statements as well as did investigatory and disclosure work for the Inquiry.
Nazmeen has drafted applications and responses for Judicial Reviews in Immigration matters. She has received instructions for Appellants and on behalf of the GLD. Her drafting also includes advising and skeleton arguments on Article 8 of the ECHR.
Nazmeen currently appears regularly for the Secretary of State for the Home Department in immigration matters. She also accepts instructions for the Appellant at all levels of court.
Nazmeen Imambaccus is a commercial and regulatory barrister with particular experience in financial services regulation, economic crime, and complex investigations. She is regularly instructed in matters involving major regulators and enforcement bodies and brings a strong understanding of regulatory decision-making, evidential issues, and privilege.
Nazmeen is well placed to assist solicitors acting for regulated firms and individuals in FCA investigations and enforcement proceedings, as well as in matters involving parallel criminal or regulatory exposure. Her work is characterised by careful analysis of financial evidence, practical advice on risk and strategy, and clear, responsive support throughout investigations.
