Naima specialises in children law, public law and human rights. She has a keen interest in protecting the rights of vulnerable individuals and has been commended for her analytical mind and ability to draw out the essential points of a case.
Naima qualified as an Advocate of the High Courts in Pakistan in 2015.
Alongside her core practice, Naima maintains a particular interest in cases concerning human rights and social justice issues and has been involved in capital cases before the senior courts in Pakistan.
Naima is currently instructed to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.
Naima is a member of the Centre for Women’s Justice legal reference panel.
Naima appears at all levels of the Family Court and High Court, and accepts instructions in international and private law children matters, and injunctive Family Law Act proceedings.
Naima is regularly instructed in complex cases concerning allegations of harm, parental alienation, mental health issues and sexual abuse.
Naima has a particular interest and expertise in cases involving an international element, including international relocation, honour-based violence, forced marriage, female genital mutilation and child abduction. Naima spent significant time in Pakistan between 2014 and 2016, gaining experience in cases involving sensitive and complex issues including stranded spouse, forced/child marriage and child abduction.
Naima also has some expertise in Islamic law and is able to provide advice on the application of Pakistani law and Islamic law.
Naima accepts instructions in care and adoption proceedings. She has experience of cases involving serious allegations of neglect and abuse, substance misuse and mental health issues.
Naima undertook a secondment with the Directorate of the Legal Services of the Metropolitan Police. She was instructed to appear in applications concerning disclosure of information in cases of alleged child abuse, including child-on-child sexual abuse and linked criminal and care directions hearings.
Naima accepts instructions in Court of Protection cases and has a particular interest in cases involving deprivation of liberty and important decisions in relation to medical treatment.
Naima is a staunch opponent of the death penalty. She successfully acted as sole counsel in an appeal in the Lahore High Court in the case of State v Farman in which a sentence of death was commuted to one of life imprisonment.
She collaborated with Justice Project Pakistan for the production of a training manual for the judiciary of Pakistan on the rights of mentally ill defendants in capital cases under domestic and international law. Naima remains committed to the fight against the death penalty and accepts instructions on a pro bono basis.
Naima also has a strong interest in public international law and has assisted in extensive research on the rights of human rights defenders in the Americas for the former UN Special Representative of the Secretary General on Human Rights Defenders.
