Jesse Cook is known for his personable, down to earth style and his ability to put clients at ease in uncomfortable and stressful situations, which makes him popular with professional and lay clients alike.
Before fully qualifying as a barrister Jesse worked as a paralegal at a West London law firm and enjoyed a successful career in legal recruitment in the City.
Whether appearing in the family or county court, or at a tribunal, Jesse provides practical advice on complex legal matters in a simple, straightforward way. He is a robust and able advocate.
Legal Services
Jesse regularly appears in the family court and has gained experience across a broad range of family proceedings including family finance and private law children matters. He accepts instructions at all stages of proceedings, from first hearing to final hearing.
Selected Cases
Obtaining a specific issue order that allowed a maternal grandmother to take her grandchild on a Caribbean holiday, despite strong opposition from the child’s mother.
Successfully resisting an application for a charging order against the respondent father’s property in respect of unpaid child maintenance.
Securing a finding that an allegation of sexual assault against the applicant in children proceedings was in fact ‘false and malicious.
Various applications for child arrangement orders, prohibited steps orders and non-molestation orders
Jesse appears in Employment Tribunals and Disciplinary hearings across a wide range of industries and sectors.
- Representing the Claimant in a claim for Constructive Unfair Dismissal and negotiating a significant settlement award.
- Successful application to have a nurse who had previously been struck off the register for dishonesty restored to the register.
- Advising an international athlete who was the subject of disciplinary proceedings following a night out and disturbance during an official competition.
- Representing a leading, global car manufacturer in successfully defending a discrimination claim.
Jesse has a strong grounding in sports law and football related matters in particular. He has advised and represented individuals, clubs and organisations throughout the sports industry in both disputes and transactional matters including sponsorship and commercial agreements.
Jesse regularly advises on and negotiates transfers and contractual terms for football players and clubs from the Premier League and throughout the English Football pyramid.
Selected Experience
- Advising a high profile football agent on a claim for breach of contract against his former client, an international football player.
- Advising a football player and his family on contractual terms ahead of his transfer from a Championship club to a Premier League club.
- Negotiating settlement between a scout and one of the world’s largest football agencies, in respect of commission due, following the transfer of an England international, a year after the scout had left his role with the agency.
- Representing a young Premier League football player in disciplinary proceedings brought against him by his football club.
- Advising an international athlete on disciplinary proceedings brought against her for breaches of her Code of Conduct following a night out whilst on international duty.
