Jesse Cook is building a practice in all areas of Chambers’ work.
He is known for his personable, down to earth style and his ability to put clients at ease in uncomfortable and stressful situations, which makes him popular with professional and lay clients alike.
Before fully qualifying as a barrister Jesse worked as a paralegal at a West London law firm and enjoyed a successful career in legal recruitment in the City.
Whether appearing in the criminal, county or family court, Jesse provides practical advice on complex legal matters in a simple, straightforward way. He is a robust and able advocate.
Jesse has acted in numerous personal injury matters, including those arising out of road traffic accidents and occupier’s liability claims. He acts for both claimants and defendants in fast track trials, MOJ Stage 3 hearings and is well versed in credit hire cases and arguments on costs. He is often instructed to represent leading insurers.
Successfully arguing for a significant reduction in quantum in a claim for property damage brought by an agent of a major transport network, where liability had already been admitted.
Successful claim for damages for physical and psychiatric injury suffered following a road traffic accident.
Successfully defending a claim for credit hire charges in its entirety.
Jesse regularly appears in the family court and has gained experience across a broad range of family proceedings including family finance and private and public law children matters. He accepts instructions at all stages of proceedings, from first hearing to final hearing.
He has also recently been instructed by the Directorate of Legal Services for the Metropolitan Police in relation to the Independent Inquiry into Child Sex Abuse.
Obtaining a specific issue order that allowed a maternal grandmother to take her grandchild on a Caribbean holiday, despite strong opposition from the child’s mother.
Successfully resisting an application for a charging order against the respondent father’s property in respect of unpaid child maintenance.
Various applications for child arrangement orders, prohibited steps orders and non-molestation orders
Jesse acts in a wide range of business and contractual disputes, including those involving the sale of goods, the provision of services, unfair terms and debt recovery. He represents private individuals, as well as businesses ranging from SMEs to household names.
Successful claim for outstanding payments due under a construction contract, and successfully defending the counterclaim for defective works.
Obtaining damages and legal costs for the claimant, a recruitment agency, against a defendant who refused to pay the claimant for services provided.
Defending a global telecoms company in a claim for breach of contract brought by one of its clients, a UK based SME.
