Andrew Grime is a highly experienced specialist practitioner in family and civil law, with a particular emphasis on disputes where the two areas overlap.
His financial work encompasses matrimonial finance, Schedule 1, international issues and complex substantial asset cases.
Andrew’s practice involves all aspects of care and adoption proceedings, including complex and serious injury cases. He acts for parents, children and local authorities as well as public bodies, victims and perpetrators of sexual and physical abuse and CAFCASS.
His children work includes disputes in respect of living and care arrangements, international relocation, complex disputes involving allegations of harm, mental health issues and parental alienation.
He advises and represents clients in a wide range of probate claims and property disputes with a particular emphasis on claims pursuant to the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 and the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996.
He is an accredited mediator in civil and family finance cases.

Andrew is a highly regarded senior junior with a busy practice covering all issues of matrimonial finance, with a particular emphasis on matters dealing with businesses, farming disputes, companies and partnerships, often involving substantial and complex assets spread over various jurisdictions. He has a particular interest in trust issues.
He is regularly asked to advise and represent clients, particularly former cohabitees, on the existence and extent of beneficial interests in land and Children Act 1989, Schedule 1 applications.

R v. R [2015]
Andrew successfully represented the Executor of a multi-million pound Estate, comprising assets in both the UK and Bangladesh, against claims of breach of duty.
Andrew is a highly regarded senior junior with a wide-ranging private law practice, with particular expertise in complex and high conflict cases. He regularly advises and represents clients in cases involving disputes as to living and care arrangements, domestic and international relocation, allegations of harm and parental alienation. He often acts in matters where there are issues in respect of mental health and substance abuse.
He regularly speaks on private law issues at Chambers’ seminars and for Resolution.
Andrew is a highly experienced practitioner in all public law proceedings and regularly acts on behalf of local authorities, parents, guardians and children in complex and lengthy care cases. He has considerable experience dealing with cases of sexual harm, non-accidental injury, shaking injuries, neglect, drug and alcohol issues, suspected Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and fictitious or induced injury.
He has advised upon and represented clients in respect of claims alleging breaches of human rights within care proceedings. These have included proceedings concerning the unfair and unlawful treatment of parents as well as the defence of claims where local authorities failed to initiate proceedings for children who had been voluntarily placed in care.

Andrew successfully acted on behalf of a father in care proceedings where multiple allegations of serious sexual abuse were made. The judgment exonerated the father of any involvement.

Andrew acted on behalf of the Executors in defending claims regarding allegations of lack of testamentary capacity.
I v. A [2014]
Andrew acted on behalf of a severely disabled child in a claim pursuant to the I(PFD) Act 1975.
D v. D [2014]
Andrew acted on behalf of Executors in a claim pursuant to the I(PFD) Act 1975 by an adult child including allegations of very serious sexual abuse by the deceased.

Andrew has extensive experience in acting for both claimants and defendants (including executors) in claims concerning inheritance and the vulnerable elderly. His knowledge is materially enhanced by his family finance experience. He regularly undertakes work in a number of areas of contentious probate and his current practice incorporates:
- Claims pursuant to the Inheritance (Provision for Families and Dependants) Act 1975 (often in relation to high value estates, his experience in this area is complemented by his expertise in complex financial remedy applications);
- Claims under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996;
- Constructive trust claims between cohabitees or in respect of contested estates and resulting trusts;
- Claims by way of equitable estoppel;
- Claims in respect of testamentary capacity and undue influence.
In relation to trust work, he is often involved where trusts and matrimonial finance law overlap. He has advised and represented trustees on their position in financial remedy proceedings.
Andrew is an accredited Mediator, trained through ADR and he regularly acts in the mediation of Inheritance Act claims both as a mediator and counsel.

Andrew is a highly experienced practitioner with particular expertise in advising and representing clients in complex disputes relating to constructive and resulting trusts, equitable estoppel and undue influence.
Andrew was trained by ADR and accredited as a mediator in 2005 since when he has been involved in many mediations covering a wide variety of civil, property and commercial disputes, frequently of a complex and multi-party nature. He is renowned for his thorough preparation and his ability to get to the root of a dispute. Always practical and pragmatic, he works hard to gain the confidence of parties ensuring a consensual resolution to their disputes.
Andrew has mediated disputes involving business contracts, property disputes (with a particular interest in claims pursuant to the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996), trusts, Wills and claims made pursuant to the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents Act) 1975.
Whilst not a trained family mediator, Andrew has a wealth of experience in family law and has successfully mediated matrimonial finance claims under the Civil ADR mediation model and by way of ‘private FDR’.
He has further been regularly engaged as ‘mediation counsel’ and ‘Settlement Counsel’ where existing representatives have been unable to extract clients from protracted and complex litigation and a more commercial approach is required.
