Alvaro Loxton accepts instructions in Family and Civil Law matters. He is regularly instructed in matrimonial finance, private children, cohabitation disputes (including TLATA), employment disputes, and commercial litigation, especially debt recovery, credit hire, consumer credit matters, and corporate insolvency and restructuring.
Alvaro maintains a growing advisory and paperwork practice. He is instructed to advise on case strategy and complex points of law, and to draft pleadings, schedules, and statements of case across his areas of expertise.
Prior to taking tenancy at Pump Court, Alvaro represented lay and professional clients in the County Court as an Advocate across a broad range of civil matters, including landlord and tenant repossessions and small-claims trials. He also served for two years as a Crown Court Clerk on the Western Circuit, working closely with the judiciary on a number of high-profile cases, including the trial of the Colston Four.
Alongside his court work, Alvaro regularly writes for the Chambers’ blog and for Family Law Week, commenting on recent decisions of the Court of Appeal and High Court. Further details can be found in the Publications section below.

Alvaro practises across the full spectrum of employment law and is regularly instructed to represent both claimants and respondents in the Employment Tribunal. He appears at final hearings and interim applications and is frequently asked to advise at an early stage of proceedings on merits, strategy, and risk.
He is experienced in drafting pleadings (ET1s and ET3s), advising on complex procedural issues, and refining case strategy as matters progress. He works closely with solicitors to ensure that advice is clear, realistic, and aligned with clients’ objectives. Alongside his paper-based practice, Alvaro reviews and advises on settlement agreements.
Alvaro is also regularly instructed to represent clients at mediations and judicial settlement discussions, where he adopts a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach.
During a two-day final hearing dealing with liability and remedy, Alvaro represented the claimant in a claim for unfair dismissal, statutory redundancy payment and notice pay. The claimant succeeded in part on its claim. One of the findings was that the claimant was unfairly dismissed.
Alvaro represented the claimant in a mediation in an ongoing claim for unfair dismissal, direct disability discrimination and failure to make reasonable adjustments. The claimant ultimately reached a negotiated settlement that they were happy with.
Alvaro was instructed to advise the director of a company on a possible claim for unlawful deductions and a breach of contract claim for the unpaid discretionary bonus not made during employment.
