Alice Scott joined Chambers following the successful completion of pupillage. She gained experience in all areas of Chambers’ expertise and has developed a busy and growing practice in public and employment law, including, inquiries, investigations, inquests and claims of discrimination and unfair dismissal. Alice is currently instructed as Second Junior Counsel on the Undercover Policing Inquiry and as Second Junior Counsel on the Covid-19 Inquiry. Alice is known for her skills as an advocate in court and her approachability. She appears regularly in front of a wide range of courts and tribunals and is also building a significant investigatory practice.

Alice has been instructed by the Police in an inquest into the death of a minor and provided assistance to Coroner Harris on the serious complex cases at London Inner South Coroner’s Court for six-months.

Alice is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association Junior Committee – she regularly delivers webinars for the ELA and has an article published in the ELA Briefing.

Alice has been accepted to the Government Legal Department’s Junior Junior Counsel Scheme.

Prior to joining Chambers, Alice worked as a Legal Advisor to Grenfell Tower survivors and was instrumental in establishing a new legal advice clinic with the University College London Centre for Access to Justice in Stratford, advising over 100 vulnerable people on social welfare law. In these roles Alice provided tribunal representation and worked towards developing and influencing public policy in social security and housing law.

Alice also spent four-months in Houston, Texas, representing people facing the death penalty. Alice received the Sir John Priestly Scholarship from Inner Temple to complete the internship.

Legal Services

Alice is currently instructed as Second Junior Counsel on the Undercover Policing Inquiry. She provides support to Senior Counsel on the Inquiry by carrying out extensive, detailed document review and drafting Rule 9 requests.

Alice is currently instructed as Second Junior Counsel on the Covid-19 Inquiry.

Alice was instructed as Junior Junior Counsel on the Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry. Alice prepared Rule 9 requests and contributed to complex disclosure exercises.

Alice was instructed by NHS England and Improvement as the Panel Secretary in the independent investigation into Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust: ‘Right First Time’. The Chair of the investigation was Nigel Pascoe QC. Alice was heavily involved in writing the first and second report. She also managed the disclosure of hundreds of documents from various interested parties and arranged for 50 witnesses to give evidence at the investigative public hearings, which took place over six weeks.

Alice regularly delivers webinars on the topic of inquiries, including to the Government Legal Department and TLT Solicitors.

Alice was instructed by the Police in an inquest into the death of a minor.

Alice provided assistance to Coroner Harris on the serious complex cases at London Inner South Coroner’s Court for six-months.

Alice has successfully represented Claimants and Respondents in claims of discrimination, redundancy, unlawful deduction of wages and breaches of contract.

Alice recently successfully defended a claim in the Employment Tribunal for breach of contract and compensation in excess of £30,000.

Alice secured a successful finding of disability under the Equality Act in the Employment Tribunal.

Alice is regularly instructed to advise both Claimants and Respondents on a broad range of Employment Law issues, including on settlement.

Alice has also advised and provided representation in claims on a direct access basis.

Alice volunteers for the Employment Tribunal Litigation in Person Support Scheme and has also advised in claims on a pro bono basis through Advocate.

Alice regularly delivers webinars on Employment Law issues, including through the Employment Lawyers Association and Pump Court Chambers. Alice had an article published in the ELA Briefing. Alice recently participated in a Mock Tribunal for Thomson Snell & Passmore LLP.

Alice has appeared in fast track, small claims and stage 3 hearings, acting for Claimants and Defendants in RTA and personal injury claims and credit hire cases. Alice also provides advice in personal injury and Occupier’s Liability cases on a regular basis. Alice has delivered webinars on this topic for MBL Seminars and Pump Court Chambers.

Alice has appeared in possession claims and advised on landlord and tenant disputes, including easements and service charge provisions.

Alice has experience in the County Court, acting for both Claimants and Defendants in applications for relief from sanction, costs, default judgment and bankruptcy petitions.

Alice was successful in defending a contract dispute, with a finding in favour of the Defendant at the close of the Claimant’s case and costs awarded to the Defendant on the indemnity basis.
