Alexandra Gilmore is a family law barrister and trained mediator practising in all areas of matrimonial, public and children law.
Alexandra is a well respected barrister and is renowned for being a safe pair of hands for cases that involve complex factual and legal issues. Clients describe Alexandra as a robust and fearless advocate, with superb attention to detail. She compliments this with her advanced negotiation skills and high emotional intelligence to appreciate when cases demand a more conciliatory approach. Alexandra’s previous experience working in the psychology field before coming to the Bar lends itself to the delicate nature of complex family proceedings. In children law, she has significant experience in disputes concerning children where there are allegations of alienation, cases with an international element concerning child relocation, cases which involve children with mental and physical disabilities and cases involving domestic abuse and child abuse.
In family finance law, she has extensive experience in cases involving all aspects of division of matrimonial assets in this jurisdiction and on a cross jurisdictional basis. Her successful business experience previously in corporate accounts for Blue Chip companies before coming to be Bar lends itself to the complex areas of family finance arguments.
Alexandra welcomes enquiries at an early stage as to the merits of a case, to enable a case to run to a successful conclusion. She considers that the success of a case is largely determined by the early work that takes place. Similarly however, Alexandra is very experienced in unpicking cases that appear to be hopeless and then turn them around to a successful outcome. Alexandra is qualified to accept instructions from members of the public via the direct access scheme.
Client testimonials
“Alexandra Gilmore represented me in a complex family case to support me to gain equal custody of my children. She rapidly got to grips with the lengthy background of my case and prepared with meticulous detail. She focussed on the main issues to overcome and prepared and conducted a final hearing that turned into a fact-finding hearing in July 2024, using her exceptional knowledge, experience and legal skill.
Alexandra represented me and my children for another 1 1/2 years of hearings with both intelligence and heart. Her command of the law, experience of the legal process and incredible ability to navigate the nuances of each hearing with perfect balance of assertiveness and restraint was inspiring. It was a very difficult time for me emotionally and she supported me as a mother as well as a client. Her compassion, commitment to gain the right outcome for my children, reassurance during hugely uncertain and overwhelming circumstances and genuine care was so important to keep me focussed and calm. I can’t express how much she went above and beyond, investing so much time and energy into preparation, strategy and advocacy to achieve the best possible outcome for my family.
Thanks to her dedication and expertise, the case was successfully concluded with exactly what I had wished for, which has already had a profound and lasting impact on our lives. What she has achieved for my family goes beyond legal representation, she has given us justice, stability and a positive future we can look forward to.
I cannot recommend her highly enough. Her generosity, expertise, professionalism and compassion are truly exceptional.”
