Alexander Courtnage

Alexander joined Pump Court as a Probationary Tenant in April 2026. He is building a practice at Pump Court covering Regulatory & Professional Discipline, Administrative & Public Law, and Public Inquiries & Inquests and welcomes instructions requiring both advisory work and advocacy.

Alex also accepts instructions in Breach of Contract, Claims under the Consumer Credit Act 1974/PPI, Credit Hire, Debt recovery, Personal and Corporate Insolvency, Property and Personal Injury. Alex appears in small claim and fast track trials, as well as interlocutory applications, CMCs, possession hearings, orders for sale hearings, ASBO injunctions, winding up petitions, bankruptcy petitions, and applications to set-aside statutory demands. Alexander is also a member of the Government Legal Department’s Junior Junior Scheme.

Prior to joining Pump Court Chambers, Alexander completed pupillage which focused predominantly on criminal defence practice. He developed his advocacy skills through appearing daily in the Magistrates and Crown Courts across London & the South East. He is confident conducting advocacy in court and advising and supporting clients.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Alexander had a career in the Civil Service, where he held roles focusing on policy and strategy development, as well as international engagement. His specific area of expertise was the growth of online radicalisation and the use of emerging technologies to promote terrorist ideologies.

Prior to working within the Civil Service, he worked for several years as a Professional Assistant to Geoffrey Robertson KC. During this time, he assisted on several cases concerning international human rights, including a petition to the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights on behalf of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
