Ed Wylde successfully represents defendant accused of rape

News 27th February 2025

Ed Wylde,  instructed by Tang, Bentley & Jackson, represented a man (L) accused of raping, and attempting to rape, a teenage girl on three occasions in the mid-1990s. The defence was one of consent/belief in consent in respect of one allegation of rape, and factual denial in relation to the other allegation of rape and the allegation of attempted rape. The circumstances of the case were alluded to on an episode of the Jeremy Kyle show.

After a trial at Portsmouth Crown Court, L was found Not Guilty of all counts – with the jury being directed to return a verdict of Not Guilty on the count of attempted rape, after a successful submission of No Case to Answer at the conclusion of the prosecution case.
