In less than an hour of deliberations, the jury rejected the claim put forward by the Defence that the Defendant was guilty of manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility and convicted of murder. The Defendant, who now identifies as male, had travelled to his mother’s flat and in a fit of rage, fuelled by alcohol, had slit his mother’s throat and caused multiple wounds to her head, neck, shoulders and stomach before calling 999 and claiming that “the Demons made me do it”. He will be sentenced in the New Year.
