Pump Court Chambers’ Property Team is pleased to invite you to our Annual Property Law Seminar, providing a valuable and in-depth seminar for all practitioners in this area.

Our property law barristers will review notable recent decisions and provide practical analysis and advice designed to give an up to date overview of all key issues and law, practice and procedure.

The speakers and topics will include:

  • Jason Nickless (2001 call) – Bankruptcy and property law (slides)
    • The inter-relationship between property law and personal insolvency
    • How someone becomes bankrupt and the effect that this will have upon their interests in real property
    • The vesting of the bankrupt’s estate in a trustee and the sale of real property including the family home
    • What happens to contentious litigation when one of the parties is declared bankrupt
    • A brief outline of a trustee’s powers to bring assets back into the estate that may have been transferred by a person before they became bankrupt
  • James Byrne (2012 call) – Disrepair and housing conditions caselaw roundup: plus some other interesting recent cases to be aware of (slides)
  • Oliver Foy (2016 call) – Proprietary estoppel: recent cases (slides)
  • Rebekah Batt (2021 call) – Total nuisance: 2024 caselaw update (slides)
    • The Manchester Ship Canal Company Ltd v United Utilities Water Limited (No 2) [2024] UKSC 22; and
    • Davies v Bridgend County Borough Council [2024] UKSC 15

Registration and a buffet lunch will take place from 1:00pm, plus there will be an opportunity for networking over drinks after the seminar.
