Chambers is pleased to welcome Ruba Huleihel and Hester Calder to chambers following the successful completion of their pupillages.
Ruba is a specialist criminal barrister. She undertakes all areas of criminal work, both prosecuting and defending, and holds the position of grade 1 panel advocate for the CPS in general crime. Prior to commencing pupillage, Ruba was a legal advisor at Harrow Law Centre working with young people and parents on Stop and Search rights, county lines exploitation, education law, and community care law. Alongside this role, she was a support worker to Syrian refugees at Single Homelessness Project. Ruba has a keen interest in Extradition and International law, stemming from her previous experience as a caseworker with a busy South London firm whilst Simultaneously, completing an LLM in International Law.
During her pupillage year, Hester gained experience in several of Chambers’ key practice areas including civil, family, regulatory, and criminal law (both defence and prosecution). Prior to pupillage, Hester completed a specialist LLM in Criminal Justice, Family and Social Welfare and also had a vast exposure to criminal law, having worked as a Criminal Defence Caseworker, being the assistant to an accomplished and successful criminal defence consultant of the firm. Hester managed her own caseload and clients in the Magistrates and Crown Court, including youths and vulnerable clients, single and multi-handed cases, and the broad spectrum of offences from theft to murder. This included managing the client in the UK’s largest-ever modern slavery prosecution.
