Past Events
19th May 2021, 12:30 to 13:00

Pump Court Chambers Family Team is pleased to invite you to our forthcoming webinar ‘COVID-19 as a Barder Event and Generally as Grounds for Variation‘. In this lunch time webinar Mark Ablett will review notable recent decisions and provide practical analysis and advice designed to give an up to date overview of the key issues and update delegates on law, practice and procedure in this uncertain world.

Topics will include:

  • A ‘Barder Event’ – Barder v Barder (Caluori Intervening) [1988 AC 20] and some subsequent case law.
  • Covid as a Barder event (or not, as the case may be): FRB v DRC (No 3) [2020] EWHC 3696 (Fam) and Myerson v Myerson (No 2) [2009] EWCA Civ 282
  • Covid as grounds for variation under s.31 Matrimonial Causes Act 1973

This talk will then be followed a brief Q&A session

Why should you book on the course? What will you learn?
Covid is the biggest financial event since the 2008 financial crash. Clients will want to know whether they can alter previously agreed arrangements and/or vary ongoing maintenance. If your client is a business owner who has been affected by Covid, this talk should be of interest.
