The COVID-19 Pandemic has only served to accelerate the use of remote hearings to determine disputes. As an important means of broadening access to justice, there is no question that such hearings are here to stay. This event brings together a diverse group of legal experts to discuss an international experience of judging and advocating remotely.

Topics will include:

• The Judge’s experience and the advocate’s skill;
• Determining which cases are suitable for remote hearings;
• The IT platforms in use and experience of their effectiveness;
• What should you have in mind to ensure all goes to plan and the case is most effectively presented or heard.

			Oba Nsugbe QC, SAN
			Dual qualified in the UK and Nigeria, Head of Pump Court Chambers, Oba Nsugbe QC, SAN has a broad international practice focussing on Africa related litigation and dispute resolution. He is a part time Judge of England and Wales and an advocacy trainer for Gray’s Inn and the International Senior Lawyers Project (ISLP).

			Justice Joshua Wilson (FCoA; Australia)
			Mr Justice Joshua Wilson is a Judge of the Family Court of Australia. Prior to his appointment to the Bench in October 2015, he practised as a barrister-at-law and Senior Counsel based in Melbourne, Australia. He holds undergraduate, masters and doctorate degrees in law.He has practised for over 30 years but he has practised exclusively as a barrister for the last 26 years, mainly in commercial and equity cases at trial and at appellate level in Supreme and Federal Courts across Australia.

			Sir Bernard Eder  (Singapore International Commercial Court, International Judge)
			Bernard Eder is an international arbitrator/mediator based at 24 Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London. He previously practised as a barrister at Essex Court Chambers for almost 35 years – between 1976 and 2010 – specialising in commercial litigation and international arbitration. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1991. During his practice at the English Bar, he acted as Counsel in over 100 reported cases (including in the Commercial Court, the Court of Appeal, the House of Lords and the Privy Council) and over 200 international arbitrations. In 2011, he was appointed a Judge of the High Court of England and Wales. He resigned from the Bench in April 2015. During that time, he sat mainly in the Commercial Court in London where he presided over a number of high-profile trials. In 2015, he was appointed an International Judge at the Singapore International Commercial Court – and re-appointed in 2018 for a further term. He was formerly Chair of ARIAS(UK). 			Dato’ Lim Chee Wee (Skrine Advocates & Solicitors; Malaysia)
			Chee Wee has been practicing law for 25 years. He has a broad commercial practice, having experience in a wide variety of commercial and corporate disputes and litigation, including international arbitrations in Asia and Europe.He is the former president of the Malaysian Bar (2011-2013), a former member of the National Unity Consultative Council of the Operations Review Panel of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. He is a member of the 1MDB Task Force for investigations, prosecution and asset recovery.

			Anna Annandale SC (National Advocacy Training Convenor GCB; South Africa)
			Until recently she was the advocacy training convenor of the Durban Bar and has for many years been a member of the GCB Advocacy Training Council, where she was instrumental in devising skills transfer programmes and was a course director of several advocacy training programmes. In July 2017 she assumed the role of National Advocacy Training Convenor. 			Mr Justice Cohen (Royal Courts of Justice; England & Wales)
			Mr Justice Cohen is a Judge of the High Court of England and Wales, appointed in 2017, and assigned to the Family Division. His practice at the Bar initally covered all areas of work but increasingly specialised in family work, which was the mainstay of his 20 years’ practice as a QC. The majority of his time on the Bench is spent dealing with financial remedy cases, most of which involve a foreign element. He is a Lead Advocacy Tutor for Lincoln’s Inn.

			Brendan Navin Siva (Chairman, International Advocacy Training Council; Malaysia)
			Brendan Navin Siva is a B.Ec/LLB graduate of the University of Sydney and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1999. Brendan practices mainly in commercial litigation. Brendan was a member of the Bar Council, Malaysia for 8 terms and was Chairman of the Kuala Lumpur Bar 2011/2013. Brendan is now Chairman of the International Advocacy Training Council (IATC). Brendan has conducted advocacy training throughout Malaysia and in Hong Kong, England, South Africa, Ireland, Singapore, Scotland, Australia and the Maldives
