Sarah Jones QC has successfully represented a man arrested over the attempted murder of his first girlfriend following a four day trial at Portsmouth Crown Court. The defendant had been accused of attacking his ex-partner with a 2.5in tomato knife leaving her with six wounds and a cut thumb and finger.
Members of the jury viewed CCTV footage of incident and heard under cross examination how the defendant had been diagnosed and medicated for depression and at that he was ready to take his own life having met with his ex-partner that day.
A jury cleared the defendant in two hours, returning not guilty verdicts on an attempted murder charge and two alternatives of wounding with intent and wounding. A five-year restraining order was imposed banning the defendant from contacting the his ex-partner following the acquittal.
