James Newton-Price QC and Richard Tutt have successfully prosecuted a mother and her male partner for causing or allowing the death of a 24 day old baby in a case which attracted national media coverage. The child died from a skull fracture and associated brain haemorrhage and was found to have sustained 32 rib fractures and 9 arm and leg fractures on three previous occasions.
The trial lasted 6 weeks at Winchester Crown Court and involved the presentation of complex and harrowing medical evidence. The Judge commended the way in which the case had been prosecuted after the defendants were found guilty.
