Schoolgirl convicted of attempting to murder former best friend

News 12th October 2016

A 15 year old Hampshire schoolgirl has been convicted of attempting to murder her former best friend in a planned knife attack at school on Monday 25 April 2016. Prosecuting counsel, James Newton-Price told the jury at Winchester Crown Court that the young defendant had become obsessed with serial killers and school shootings, including the Columbine High School massacre, and that she yearned for the notoriety of committing a sensational crime. She had cut her own face with a kitchen knife on the morning of the attack in order to imitate the look of the Joker. She had researched the location of the heart and how to kill swiftly and effectively with a knife on the internet. She had also discussed plans to kill her mother and brother and had prepared a “kill list” of other pupils at her school. Fortunately, the victim escaped serious injury when she saw the knife coming, so she stepped back, but the knife cut through the fabric of her blazer and shirt and made a puncture wound in her left breast above her heart. The defendant will be sentenced after psychiatric reports have been prepared.
