Nigel is a specialist practitioner in criminal jury advocacy. He undertakes Courts Martial, and some civil work, including serious abuse and baby shaking cases, defamation, planning and licensing. He is the senior member of Chambers and has been one of the top jury advocates in the country since taking Silk in 1988. He has considerable experience of mental health issues, notably in murder cases.
Nigel has represented the interests of New Forest Industries when Shell applied to drill for oil in the New Forest, he understands and has experience of local government planners and their work and is accredited to a panel that can chair planning appeals in the Forest of Dean.
He also believes strongly in close teamwork in major cases and good personal communication with professional and lay clients. He is IT literate, with a particular interest in all aspects of Court technology. Nigel also advises online where requested, using Skype.
He appears in Chambers and Partners 2014 edition, Leaders at the Bar, which states "another former leader of the Western Circuit who has a reputation as a very good jury advocate, who is very charming and persuasive." He is also recommended in the latest edition of the Legal 500 as leading Silk within Crime.
Nigel has appeared in many high profile murder cases in Bristol, Exeter, Truro, Salisbury and Winchester and many major cases elsewhere in circuit, including a huge drugs conspiracy in Exeter. He is currently due to prosecute high profile murders in Bournemouth and Winchester.
