Paul Mertens appointed to Attorney General’s Panel of Special Advocates

News 10th January 2018

Pump Court Chambers is delighted to announce that Paul Mertens has been appointed as a Special Advocate by the Attorney General. Special Advocates appear in a wide variety of forums where a party, with the permission of the forum, seeks to rely on ‘closed’ evidence (often relating to issues of national security).

Paul was called to the Bar in 2010 and has been instructed in a number of matters by the Treasury Solicitor. He also has experience of public inquiries. In 2015, Paul was instructed on behalf of the Cabinet Office to assist with the maxwellisation of a prominent witness’s response to the Iraq Inquiry. Paul is currently working as part of a small team of junior counsel to the Undercover Policing Inquiry.
