A jury at Winchester Crown Court has heard how a 51 year old woman has died from internal injuries two days after being admitted to hospital.  Addressing the jury Mr Justice Akenhead said “You will see evidence which some of you, if not all of you will, find shocking and disturbing.”

On Friday April 18^th 2014, Majella Lynch was admitted to hospital with severe abdominal pains following a call for an ambulance by support workers visiting her home. Having been examined by medical staff, a 400ml shampoo bottle was found in her abdominal cavity. She was very reluctant to say what had lead to this terrible pain, however later confirmed to a nurse that she had been assaulted. Having had the bottle removed she died 2 days later. The Court heard how Ms. Lynch was described as ‘a chronic drinker who had a chaotic lifestyle which left her vulnerable’.

Daniel McBride, 43 of Southampton, who had initially denied having ever met Ms Lynch, later admitted to visiting the flat around the time of the injuries. McBride, who is represented by Oba Nsugbe QC and Andrew Houston, denies the charge of murder.
